Metal 2 The Masses (Birmingham) Heat 4

Another chilly night at The Flapper, another roaring Heat for M2TM Birmingham, I turned up much earlier than planned and managed to check out a few of the bands while they’re were doing sound checks, and from what I’ve heard it’s going to be another awesome night ahead of us!

BORN HOSTILE
Horns, middle fingers, two stepping, and chocolate milk?! BORN HOSTILE kicked off the fourth heat strong, even when the crowd started small the place was more and more packed the further they went into their set to fill out the room, cause who doesn’t want to hear a metal track devoted to chocolate milk?

LEAVE NO WITNESS
Two for two that a band got me chuckling tonight, one song cutting to some kids song about farm animals and what sounds they make, and what sound does a pig make? A nasty squeal that would even give Ol’ Mac Donald stank face! All and all, metalcore by fellow Yam Yams, cor go wrong with that.

AMETHYST
That nice mix of alt and melodic metalcore, the set flew by, which is a good thing as it shows you were just that into it, and even with I’m guessing was a sore throat as the singer sneaked off a few times for a throat spray she still nailed every note, clean and scream.

LE BONE
Flutes, trumpets, a keytair, pink (Lots and lots of pink), and a whole lot of fun, and you get is LE BONE. They have the heart and soul of bands like Mr Bungle and Primus, mixed with plenty of heaviness that kept the whole room headbanging.

LAST AGONY
Ending the night off with a bang, for me it felt like if Iron Maiden became a prog band, keeping classic metal alive while keeping it new and fresh, even earning an audience with last year’s winner MANTIS DEFEATS JAGUAR who cheered them on throughout the set.

WINNERS
And congrats to LEAVE NO WITNESS & LE BONE on making it through to the next round! Looking forward to see them both in the Semi Finals, which is already shaping up to be an amazing couple of nights with a great ranch of different styles and genres, and there’s still a whole ‘nother Heat a head of us!
