Time for the final of the Birmingham Heats, and its looking up to be a very productive night, whole film crew setting up after sound checks, guessing one of the bands are using the opportunity to shoot an MV.
FLUMXT
Starting off with some old school metal, the oldest and one longest running bands so far and managing to keep up with all the younger lads, quickly filling up the room and starting off a few most pits, amazing start to the night.
DENIED LEGACY
Starting off with an intro long enough that would it would put Tool to shame, but boy did they kick it into heaviness overdrive when they started, and the crowd went nuts throughout the entire set, even starting the world’s first headbanging huddle.
OSIRIS
And the heaviness doesn’t stop, OSIRIS coming in hard and keeping the hype going, full of energy all the way through with enough force that the drummer actually shattered one of his cymbals, which is pretty fucking brutal.
(Side note, got my first injury, one kid couldn’t handle his J2O, climbed the stage and got shoved off stumbling into me while I was knelt, resulting in me bending my big toe back. Surely that’s worth a week off work?)
YOUTH IN OBLIVION
Change of pace now, switching it up with some skater punk-esce, and the lads put on a great show despite having a few technical difficulties through out the set, plus the drummer cutting his finger open, but it all came together nice with a cover of Ozzy’s ‘Changes’ to finish.
IN ABSENTIA
And back into the deep end, IN ABSENTIA ended the night with a bang and not letting up for a second, enough to leave me with a banging headache, which I guess is a job well done!
WINNERS
And after that, the winners going through are DENIED LEGACY and FLUMXT, the later making by just a hair with a single vote making the difference! And with that, the Birmingham Heats are over and it’s on to the Semi Finals!
